Click to Fax campaign - Germany must not accept War Criminals from Sri Lanka as Diplomatic staff

Hon. Frank-Walter Steinmeier
Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs
The Federal Foreign Office - Germany

Dear Hon. Frank-Walter Steinmeier

Germany has consistently stood up for Human rights and voiced its concerns over the conduct of war and war crimes in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka's President has now appointed the military's 57-division Commanding officer Jagath Dias as Sri Lanka's Deputy Ambassador to Germany. Tamils have accused the commander of the massacre of thousands of Tamil civilians during the last battle which took place well away from the eyes of the world as the UN, NGOs and Media were banned from entering Northern Sri Lanka by the Sri Lankan Government.

Many parts of the former war zone is still sealed off to Western Media, NGOs and diplomats as Sri Lanka rapidly clears the evidences of war crimes. Tamil sources maintain that more than 30,000 innocent civilians including THOUSANDS of children were slaughtered by indiscriminate shelling in the final battle between the Sri Lankan Military and the Tamil Tiger rebels in the few months leading to May 2009.

An alleged war criminal is at your doorstep wanting to be appointed as the deputy ambassador.

We kindly request Germany to look into the records of this alleged war criminal and his crimes against humanity.

Yours Truly,
